Estrella
My name is Estrella (Spanish for "star") and I'm a critically endangered hawksbill sea turtle, or as my fellow science folks would say, an Eretmochelys imbricate. I was released with a satellite transmitter on July 4, 2014 after nesting on Tortuguero National Park beach, Costa Rica. I measure 80.9 cm in curved carapace (shell) length.

Pine Tyme
Hi there! My name is Pine Tyme, and I'm an 80-pound, sub-adult loggerhead sea turtle who was found floating, unable to dive near Big Pine Key, Florida Keys. I was taken by small boat to "The Turtle Hospital" where I received excellent care. The great doctors at The Turtle Hospital took x-rays of me that showed a lot of gas in my intestines but no other injuries or problems. It took several months of treatment with a broad spectrum of antibiotics, lactulose, beano, vitamins, and a healthy diet of fish and squid. I was released from Marathon, Florida Keys, Aug. 15, 2014.

Aaron
My name is Aaron, and I'm an 80 pound sub-adult loggerhead sea turtle who was rescued in March out of a marina in Key Largo's Angler's Club where a boat captain found me floating. I was emaciated and covered in epibiota, a parasitic organism that lives on the shell of sick turtles like me. A rehabilitation specialist picked me up in the turtle ambulance and took me to the Turtle Hospital for treatment where I received excellent care! The great doctors at The Turtle Hospital took some x-rays of me that revealed I was suffering from an intestinal impaction and lab tests showed I had a heavy load of internal parasites. For the past several months, they've been treating me with broad spectrum antibiotics, anti-parasitic medications, lactulose, vitamins, and a healthy diet of squid and fish. Boy, do I feel so much better now! Once I had gained 20 lbs. and was free of intestinal parasites, I was sent back home to the big blue off Sombrero Beach, Florida Keys. I measure 70.0 cm in curved carapace (shell) length.

2016

Bubble Butt
"I'm Bubble Butt and I'm famous around these parts. I've been here since 1989 and it's my responsibility to welcome all the newcomers. I was hit by a boat off of Long Key a long time ago. The boat hit left me with a permanent air bubble under my shell which causes me to float. So now I have a weight attached to me to help me swim. I now live permanently at the Turtle Hospital. They call me Bubble Butt because I was the first documented case of Bubble-Butt Syndrome. Nobody makes fun of me though, since there are so many other 'bubble butts' in the pool like me."

Fleming
My name is Fleming. I am a green sea turtle. I’m totally stoked to be a part of the Tour de Turtles this year! In my opinion I’m the raddest competitor in this thing! I’m not a nesting female like most of the turtles in the marathon. I was actually found by a boat captain who stopped to help me out off of Fleming Key in the Florida Keys. I was tangled in fishing line AND covered in some nasty tumors. My friends at the Turtle Hospital helped get me back on my flippers since I wasn’t doing so hot. I was released on July 22, 2016 from Sombrero Beach in Marathon, FL. I measure 77.4 cm in curved carapace (shell) length.

Destiny
